Internal Circumstances is an exhibition of new works in stained glass and copper, that brings together the enduring knowledges and agential forces held within the more-than-human world and at our core. A small selection of work from this exhibition is pictured here including sculptures Maiden and Mother, and one of six wall-based works in an ongoing series titled Seers.

The work draws upon a growing archive of photographs documenting the trails left by insects in arboreal cambium, traces that only become visible to passersby through the transformations of decay. Their trails have the appearance of arcane language that though unknowable, articulates a wisdom all its own. Like walking rituals that offer encounters with the more-than-human world, carving pathways in me for healing psyche and soma, Hudspith is drawn also to articulations of human construct of our innermost being such as the archetypal figure of the ‘wild woman’. She is wisdom, intuition, untameable. Her shape-shifting self unfurls, curious as the maiden; offers openly and protects the seeds of wisdom, as mother; and her wizened, milky, crone’s eyes read the texts written in the earth and those of our innermost being. Nurturing the wild woman within is a practice for healing and empowerment.
